Computer Science, Off Course! Episode 3 - Computing Machinery and Intelligence

It is Tuesday again, so time for a new episode of Computer Science, Off Course, of course!

This is a bit of a weird paper, normally we cover non-computer sciency work, but this paper instead is what you could consider core computer science, especially in the age of AI: the "Turing Test Paper, Or as it is officially called, Computing Machinery and Intelligence by Alan Turing. Well-known in our field—we all know what the Turing Test is—but how many of us read the original paper? I am guessing not a lot, because the paper is kinda... weird!

Now a some of you might already know this, as I have been talking about this paper a lot already. I spoke about it at (two hour) length last year on the Feeling of Coding Podcast [[1]], and earlier this year gave a 10-minute talk about it at the Booster conference in Bergen Norway.

Thus today I have no long post, just check out the episode (or one of the other links above if you want more/less).

Homework

For this paper, I think it does make sense to read the whole paper as homework, just to absorb the weirdness of it. Hanna did that, you can find the results on her new website! Since her homework was getting too long to post here, it warranted its own place!
